Thank You Alan Turing

Artistic Director: Craig Morrison

A large-scale laser event to mark the importance of Alan Turing and his contribution to modern-day technology and computing. Exhibited in Liverpool, Manchester Salford Quays, and Conwy Castle

"Thank You," described as an emotional response to Turing's life and work, used programmed hyperboloids to project the text "Thank You" into the sky above the castle towers, flickering in Morse code. A white neon sign displayed Turing's epitaph on the ground, drawing inspiration from Trafalgar Square's Fourth Plinth project.

Craig highlighted Alan Turing's significance in shaping contemporary life through his mathematical achievements and wartime code-breaking contributions, emphasizing his impact on freedom of expression.

The epitaph chosen for the installation was based on a 1954 poem from Turing's postcards to his friend Robin Gandy, titled "Messages from the Unseen World," reflecting the enduring influence of Turing's work.

Hyperboloids of wondrous Light

Rolling for aye through space and time

Harbour those waves which somehow might

Play out God's holy pantomime
