BEACON
This project came together through the collaboration of three groups from different countries: the people of Jvakskyla in Finland, the residents of Eindhoven, and the folks from Lyon in France. It's a unique international effort that will travel through these cities and light up their festivals.
Each group had a say in shaping the project based on their preferences. Craig Morrison, an artist deeply committed to Beacon's mission, sums it up: "Every experiment has unique challenges, language differences, and various goals. Beacon mainly aims to encourage people to use eco-friendly materials daily."
Each city's residents actively build the project, adding their own touch. Collaboration is crucial here; without the local community's involvement, Beacon wouldn't shine as brightly. Morrison adds, "I wanted to find a way to bring people together to celebrate these light festivals. Mixing local cultural elements tied to a specific time and place interests me. Art and culture can spark meaningful conversations with people. As Joseph Beuys, the German artist, said, 'Everyone is an artist,' and social art can drive social change. This is more important than ever."
